Population Projections
Combining the population of the four townships (Keppel, Sarawak, Derby,
Sydenham) with the city's population makes a useful way to measure the
population growth of the Owen Sound area.
Northwest Grey County's Growth
- Since 1961, the population here has increased by 39%, a rate much
greater than for the city alone.
- The townships of Sarawak and Keppel have doubled their populations
during this period.
- Most of this growth is non-farm, with many of the new residents having
employment in the City Of Owen Sound.
- Most commercial and industrial development in the northwest part of
Grey County is located in or adjacent to Owen Sound.
- A significant portion of the corresponding residential growth, however,
has occurred immediately outside the city's boundaries in the four surrounding
townships.
- Similar to the city, these townships have attractive landscapes (waterfront
lots, escarpment settings, etc.) in which to build a house.
2001 Census Stats
- Population of Grey County: 89,073 (includes 21,431 for Owen Sound)
- Population of Bruce County: 63,892
