City Manager's Message

There is a lot said about city infrastructure in the news these days.  It’s about pipes, and water treatment and roads and bridges.  This physical infrastructure is vital for our city and lots of work happens everyday to keep it functioning and contributing to our lifestyle.  Yet, having acknowledged that, I would like to use this space to mention our natural and social infrastructure that also makes Owen Sound a great place to live or visit.

Where you live is important to your physical health and well-being.   In Owen Sound we work hard to keep our air and water clean.  And this is a start of what makes our city a healthy place.  This is a city where you can walk to work, or take a bus.  You can easily ride your bike on many streets or our trail network.  There are numerous parks for exercise, relaxation or quiet reflection – and there are few parks anywhere as nice as our jewel, Harrison Park.  We have a harbour that brings Georgian Bay to our doorstep.  All of this helps develop a deep sense of place.  And that’s not all.

Our citizens are caring and our social organizations bring sparkle to many aspects of the community.  We have innovative post-secondary education, good employment opportunities and access to a full range of health and social services.  We have a cultural depth unequalled in cities of our size with a vibrant theatre, acclaimed art gallery, a melodious symphony orchestra and an energetic sports and recreation landscape. Festivals that celebrate our rich heritage and events bring excitement and opportunities to everyday life.  All of this gives our residents a chance to get involved with friends and contribute to our healthy community.

Owen Sound has an authentic and healthy life style and we welcome you to participate in every way you can.
