Fryer Oil Now Accepted

Beginning on May 1st the City will accept up to 5 gallons of fryer oil from residents at the monthly HHW Depot. This program is not open to commercial enterprises. details


CITY ELECTRONICS DEPOT CLOSING FEBRUARY 27, 2010

As the Habitat for Humanity ReStore has become a certified collection point for the Ontario Electronic Stewardship Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment the City Electronics Depot at the Miller Waste Transfer Station will be closing on February 27, 2010. [ details ]


HHW Form Now On-Line!

In an effort to speed up the line at our HHW Events the City of Owen Sound has made the HHW form available on-line so that participants can print it off and fill it in BEFORE they get to the HHW Depot. Upon arrival to the HHW Depot participants will still need to show their photo identification to the attendant. [ click here ]


Mandatory Recycling By-Law - For industrial, commercial and institutional facilities. This has now been adopted as policy in the City of Owen Sound. Details can be found here.


Forgot to set your blue box out?

Tip

With Owen Sound's cold winters and warm summers, people sometimes leave their vehicles idling unnecessarily. If you are stopped for more than 10 seconds, (except in traffic), please turn off your engine. It takes less fuel to restart your engine than it does to idle for 10 seconds.

 

Unnecessary vehicle idling:

  • Wastes fuel and money,
  • Contributes to climate change,
  • Affects local air quality and our health, and
  • Can damage engine and exhaust components.
