Accessibility Advisory Committee
The City's Accessibility Advisory Committee was recently established under the Ontarians with Disabilities Act. The Act requires that the majority of persons on the Committee be persons with disabilities.
The Committee is comprised of:
Chair: Councillor John Christie, Vice Chair: Janice Currie Members: Councillor Peter Lemon, Andy Underwood, Scott Seiler, Betty Gingrich, Robert Droine, Shaun Westlake, George Mackowski and Betty Crone
Mission Statement:
To make recommendations to City Council that consider the needs and rights of persons with disabilities and assure maximum integrated accessibility for all citizens.
Terms of Reference:
1. Advise Council in each year about the preparation, implementation and effectiveness of its accessibility plan (683 kb)
2. Provide advice on the accessibility for persons with disabilities to a building, structure or premises:
a. purchased, constructed or renovated by the City
b. to be considered new lease
c. provided as a municipal capital facility under an agreement in accordance with the Municipal Act
3. Review in a timely manner the site plans and drawings described under Section 41 of the Planning Act that the committee selects.
4. Support the implementation of related initiatives and actions within the City's Strategic Plan.
5. Perform any other functions required by the Ontarians with Disabilities Act or its regulations.
6. Address public issues and concerns regarding degrees of accessibility.
Meetings
The Committee has established the last Monday of every month at 1:00 p.m. in the lower boardroom at City Hall as its regular meeting date. The Committee welcomes any person who wishes to attend and participate in the Committee meetings.

- Ongoing review of site plan applications
Public Input
The City's Website details some of the preliminary work being done by the Committee and will be updated periodically. A public information program is under development.
