Offical Plan Five Year Review.
Owen Sound’s current Official Plan was adopted in 2006. As required by Ontario planning legislation (Planning Act) we are now due for a 5-year review of this important document. The scope of a 5-year review is to check the effectiveness of the Plan, to ensure that the Plan meets the Grey County Official Plan and provincial legislation, and to improve or enhance our policies to help the City achieve its established goals and objectives. Each and every Owen Sounder, along with our community and agency partners are invited to participate in the review of the City’s Official Plan.
This process is important to you because your vision for the City is important to us! An Official Plan is a community’s road map for development and growth into the future. An Official Plan is the outline for where homes, factories, offices, and other components of the built form should be placed.
The goals and objectives laid out in the plan are based on a 20-year time horizon, and work to balance the interests of each individual land owner with the interests of the greater community. An Official Plan affects every resident - it includes policies concerning the environment, our local economy, infrastructure, support for equity, diversity, and accessibility, and much more!
How is the Official Plan working to make Owen Sound the Place you want to live?

Our second event was an OPEN HOUSE held during our May 3, 2012 meeting of the Community Planning & Heritage Advisory Committee. The Open House began with a presentation from the consulting planner, Dave Aston of MHBC Planning. The attending public was provided an opportunity to review the draft Official Plan Amendment, to ask questions of staff and the consultant, and to provide feedback.
