The City of Owen Sound has taken the lead and challenges Owen Sound to become
one of the “Healthiest Communities” in Ontario.
Grey County Facts!
- 53.6% of Grey/Bruce residents are physically inactive (Stats Can 2001) = 47,743 people
- 40% of residents are overweight that the provincial average of 33%
- 17% of residents are considered obese versus the provincial average of 15%
- More residents are inactive than the provincial average (54% vs. 50%)
- Females are less active than males 58% vs 50%
Physical Activity

- the average person walks 2,000 more steps a day while wearing a pedometer
- youth are less likely to use tobacco, alcohol and other drugs
