City Transit 
Specialized Transit Service
 Since 1989 the City of Owen Sound has been providing residents with
a door-to-door transportation service through the operation of the Specialized
Transit Service. This service is specifically designed for residents
of the City with physical mobility limitations that restrict their ability
to use the City’s conventional public transit system.
The service’s wheelchair accessible bus operates 5 days a week
Monday to Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There is no service available on Saturdays, Sundays or holidays.
To be able to use this service an Application Form must be completed
and submitted to the City for approval. Once approved the applicant is
issued an Owen Sound Specialized Transit Card and Identification Number
which is used when booking the door-to-door transit service. Approval
to use the service must be renewed every two (2) years.

Who Should Apply?
To be eligible for Specialized Transit a City resident must meet the
following criteria:
- the inability to board a conventional bus and/or
- the inability to walk one City block or to the bus stop
nearest their residence and/or
- insufficient endurance or stamina to ride a conventional
bus for a reasonable length of time.

 Categories of Approvals
Unlimited Service: Year round approval with unrestricted or full access
to the transit service.
Attendant Required: Year round approval where an attendant is required
to accompany a client for the safety and well being of the client and
other passengers.
Temporary Service: Approval to use service is issued for a short term
or a fixed period of time to an individual whose mobility is temporarily
impaired.
Visitor: Approval to use service is issued to eligible visitors to the
City of Owen Sound for a block period of time consisting of less than
3 weeks in any 12 month period.
Winter Use Only: Approval to use service for the winter season, from
the 1st of December to the 31st day of March.

Rates
The cost per trip (one way) to use the Specialized Transit service is
$3.00 per rider cash fare. Specialized Transit Trip Cards are also available for purchase from the Transit Terminal.
10 trips for $28 and 20 trips for $55.
The Specialized Transit Service is operated by Thomas Norris Limited
To book the Specialized Transit bus, registered clients phone the Owen
Sound Transit Terminal at 376-7500. It is requested that appointments
be booked at least one or two days in advance if possible. Bookings can
be made up to two weeks in advance.
